ABOUT STEVEN ADA


“I’m not a specialist of 1 thing and I’m proud of it… I’m so curious, passionate, and always so eager to learn that I became through the time a jack of all trades ! I love shooting  (I started my carrer as a music video director and became for decades an International Director with more than an hundred of Commercials direction), also leading the production of projects (music video, commercials, short movies), and at the same time crafting beautiful images in Post that I do for decades as well, in working for other talented directors, to bringing their vision to life.
I’m in this industry for more than 25 years now, I’ve built at 29yo Specimen, a reputed creative sudio in Paris (that I managed for 10 years, and everyday with my pen tablet in hand), and within those job experiences I’ve always enrich multiple kind of  knowledges.
That’s why today I have in the Post field  the same uncontrollable versatile spirit, being  constantly jumping with passion and success from Editing (Premiere Pro, Resolve), Motion Design and VFX Compositing (After Effects, Nuke, Fusion), Color Grading (DaVinci Resolve Studio), to Supervising VFX on set, Teams in Studios, or to managing a complete Direction or Production of a project. I’m even currently perfecting my 3D skills, by myself in the mastering of Cinema4D / Redshift, but also learning Blender and more deeply Unreal Engine, while monitoring and diving into this new AI revolution, and all the new creative technologies (like 3D Gaussian Splatting, etc).
For some people it may look as weird as unusual to find so many fields of expertise into a single person, suitable to drive or assist a project at different technical levels… but to me, whatever the tool, the role, the position on a team, the type of art to achieve, or the perspective to approach the making of a project, the common denominator to any of the cases is simply a deep attraction for creativity / technology, and a passion of crafting strong visuals, exciting stories, impressive effects, and beautiful emotions !”.

Steven ADA is born in June 1970 in Paris, France. He studied Communication & Advertising at school during the early 90’s, while playing music in a pop band. Creative and highly passionated by CG Design, Steven becames firstly, as fully autodidact, a pioneer in Europe in the mastery of After Effects technics and started his artistic career in the mid 90’s by directing Motion Design and Graphic Titles Sequences for french TV channels and shows (MCM, FRANCE TV, M6, …).

During the late 90’s, he teamed-up with his childhood friend (Eric Poulet) to form the directing duo LES SP6MEN (pronounced « the speci-men »), and founded a famous Studio named “SPECIMEN” (1999). By leading one the 1st creative and independant digital Studio in Paris, the duo boosted their creativity through their own post-production solutions, equipment and teams, and went on to quickly become in the early 2000’s amongst the most notable Music Video french directors, working for the major Artists from the French Music scene (Zazie, Marc Lavoine, Raphael, Johnny Hallyday, Florent Pagny, Calogero, Superbus, …).
In the wake, they launched a successful start in TV Commercials through a key representation with the leading french production company LES TELECREATEURS / DIVISION, featuring great campaign Directions with impressive VFX and Design for PMU, VOLVIC, COTE D’OR, BNP PARIBAS, CARTE NOIRE, ORANGINA, … Mid 2000’s the 2 talented SP6MEN extended their activity in producing by their own music videos, few TVCs, and famed CG design works (such as the spectacular opening titles sequence designed by Laurent Brett for HOSTAGE movie, a Miramax US feature film with Bruce Willis and directed by Florent Emilio Siri). LES SP6MEN also directed and produced a 17 min thriller short movie shot in 35mm (RIVE GLAUQUE – SCUM).
In 2008 Steven left the duo to focus on a solo career.

2009-2020 : Aside from having developed through that period a renowned carreer as an establihed international TVC Director, Steven has always placed the post-production work in the heart of his projects, allowing to constantly feed up with an earnest passion his different occupations (Director, Producer, VFX Supervisor, or Digital Artist). As often as possible, he crafted for his films his own Editings, Color Gradings, VFX supervisions and making, leading his complex Compositing jobs from his stylet and even driving a full post-production management / production service (LANCÔME, VEET, MAROC TELECOM, RENAULT, GILLETTE, …). While being always open to working with the reptued Studios around the world, (as a director), he never hesitate to bring his Technical, Artistic and Managerial skills in Post for other director’s projects (ARMANI, VIKTOR AND ROLF Perfume, RAMBLA, BERGER, …).

2020 Steven still lives in Paris, he has  no rep anymore in France and for years, but doesn’t really need it as his director’s submisions came from his agent he closely worked with for a decade, and essentially from aboard. But March 2020 the COVID pandemic made a drastic change on the international market, and created a big turn on his job. During the very first days of the lock-down he decided to found REMOTE, an individual company to focus back his activities on Post services as an alternative solution to his job, completely frozen . With 80% of his own films, he sets up 3 showreels (1 aimed at VFX, 1 specific to Color Grading, 1 focused on the mamagement of post projects), and as at that moment the whole industry was completely rethinking  its process (searching for all the ways and technical solutions to maintain the production pace remotely with talents working from home), he quickly and easily get some VFX / Compositing missions, few Motion Design jobs, and more and more until to become submerged of work just a few months later, at the end of the lock-down. With his wide experience of shooting and tech knowledges, he’s often called to supervise VFX on set, but also some others for color grading, or for editing, and in a few months Steven developed a new reputation in the post industry of a talented and multi-faceted artist and supervisor… (RENAULT, DIOR, BABYBEL, HONDA, BURGER KING, LOUIS VUITTON, DEUTSCHE BAHN, CITROEN, GARNIER, SANOFI, PIZZA HUT, etc). Small and big Adversting projects, but also Documentaries, independant feature films, TV channels, Production companies, VFX Studios, Directors, Ad Agencies, etc also called him for different style of post needs, even Jacques Seguela himself who propose to collaborate on the visual direction of a foreign governemental advertising campaign he was developping, a series of graphic films entirely designed with animation technics in After Effects…

Currently (2022 to 2024) amongst his multiple experiences, to give a quick overview at Steven’s recent activities :
– He supervised the VFX making of a Ridley Scott film,  an ambitious Commercial film, 6 min long, treated as  SciFi short movie in a very R. Scott style (SEEDLAND), produced by RSA and post-produced by the 2 most famous VFX studios : MPC London and THE MILL Paris (with different working teams spread around all Europe during an intense 6 months+ job).
– At a different level he’s signed as a Senior Colorist the post treatment of a CANAL+ TV Series (NIABLA), leading on DAVINCI RESOLVE the look dev and the color grading of a 8×52 min thriller show, with a complete carte blanche from the Director and the co-Producers on the film look and its cinematic treatement.
– His talented work also has highly contibuted to the Official inauguration of the largest screen in the World (the Sphere @ Las Vegas), collaborating on the creation of a captivating piece of Motion Design art, with the international artist Marco Brambilla. A production of a few months @ The Mill Paris to cook in 16k this artistic and crazy project for the event (and that the famous band U2 decided to use for their musical tour @ the Sphere, as an incredible video projection show accompanying their live performance on stage).
– Steven was invited last year as a speaker at FMX 2023 Event (the annual meeting in Stuttgart of the all international VFX and new technologies industry) where he presented to the audience the unkown (at that time) and forthcoming WONDER STUDIO solution, a brand new, revolutionary, and complete online AI pipeline for CG character animation (which was just been developed in Hollywood in its fresh beta version to a limited portion of privilegied people, and not yet unveiled to the public).

Versatile and experienced, creative and accurate, Steven is a suitable person. He is able to lead solid teams in Studios, as much as working alone, remotely and independantly with his own equipement. With his fine visual style, and his rich experience Steven is fully suitable to tackle the VFX of any categories of ambitious projects for TVCs (Beauty, Perfume & Fashion, Cars, Technology, Storytelling films) but also for TV series, Feature Films, Documentaries, Corporate films, Music videos, Graphic & Design contents,…
